After going through History Day, many people have had things to say. The students participating, in both the Junior and Senior Division, and the adults involved, from coordinators to judges, have all had their share of the surprisingly rewarding History Day experience. Some have written articles, and some have just offered quotes, but we've made them available to you here.

"I was an average student-there were a lot of "A" students ahead of me. National History Day became a source of strong confidence for me. It merited me more respect among my peers, family and community. People wanted to hear what I had to say."
-Larry Rivers, Tallahassee, FL
•Quote:
""For those who don't like the boredom of usual classes, NHD gives them an opportunity to learn with hands on research and apply what they learn to everyday life. NHD gives students the thinking skills and investigative approach they will need throughout life."
-Daniel Schafer, Cheshire, CT
•Quote:
"It's so much better than reading history out of a book. You learn so much about a topic; you become an expert!"

•Quote:
"History Fair is THE best way to get your kids interested in history and the world around them. It teaches them how to research, how to present and that history is alive and all around them. Last and definitely not least, it teaches them that the community cares about them and are interested in the work they do."
-Alan Kay , Pinellas County Coordinator

• President Bush
On September 17, 2002 President George W. Bush observed the 215th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution by announcing new policies and initiatives to support the teaching of American History and Civics and by joining America's students in a nationwide pledge of allegiance.

The President announced that National History Day, in collaboration with the National Archives and Records Administration, the Corporation for National and Community Service and the USA Freedom Corps, will be giving students and teachers across the country access to national treasures of American history through the "Our Documents" initiative.
